The Story
Asnake Melesse, born in 1978 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is a visionary artist whose work is celebrated for its cultural significance and visual impact. He studied at Addis Ababa University’s School of Fine Arts and Design, where he earned a Diploma in Painting in 2002. He also expanded his artistic practice through a Basic Sculpture Workshop at the Australian Embassy. His work is characterized by a deep connection to Ethiopian culture and history, combining traditional and modern techniques with elements of abstraction and realism. His paintings are rich in color and dynamic in composition, capturing aspects of Ethiopian life while conveying complex emotions and narratives. His exhibitions include shows at Kirsten Art Studio, the Greek Club, Hilton Hotel, Alliance Ethio-Française, Embassy of Ireland, Alem Gallery, Macush Gallery, the School of Fine Arts, Sidama Lodge, and Sheraton Addis Hotel. His continued dedication to visual art and ability to evolve creatively have established him as an influential figure in contemporary Ethiopian art.
