Biography

Wendwesen Kebede Abera, born in 1983 in Dukem, Ethiopia, is a distinguished artist and historian whose work has contributed to the Ethiopian and international art scenes. His academic journey included a BA in Applied History from Addis Ababa University in 2004/5 and a BA in Painting from the School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University in 2005/6, where he graduated with distinction. His career has included teaching history and art, working as a cartoonist, layout designer, and journalist, and narrating short stories on FM Addis 97.1 and Fana FM 98.1. Since beginning to experiment with various art forms in 2009, he has established himself as a full-time studio artist. His works have been exhibited at the Ethiopian National Theater, Russian Culture Center, National Museum, and internationally in New York, South Korea, Greece, Dubai, Ecuador, Egypt, and Colombia. He has also participated in international art festivals including the Qatar International Art Festival and Paris Art Symposium. Wendwesen has served as Secretary General of the All Ethiopians Visual Artists Association and has participated in community art projects addressing hydro-politics over the Blue Nile, global warming, and Pan-Africanism. His work is deeply rooted in Ethiopian culture and history, with a vision of elevating Ethiopian art on the world stage.
